Resolution Life Group Limited
Resolution Life Group Limited was formed in 2004 for the sole purpose of buying and running closed UK life funds. It aimed to offer a solution to the problems surrounding the growing number of closed funds. It was created by experienced insurance individuals to offer an innovative and long-term solution. It was backed by capital from leading institutional investors, including pension funds and investment trusts, led by clients of Fleming Family & Partners.
In September 2004, Resolution Life Group Limited bought the UK life operations of Royal and SunAlliance Life and Pensions Limited for £850 million, which had ceased writing new with-profits business in 2001 and closed to all new life insurance business in 2002. In April 2005, Resolution Life Group Limited acquired Swiss Life UK for £205 million which had closed to new business in 2003. Subsequently, Resolution Life Group Limited integrated the former Royal & Sun Alliance UK life business (R&SA Life) and Swiss Life (UK) plc (Swiss Life UK) into one group called Phoenix Life Group (Phoenix). From April 2005 all R&SA Life and Swiss Life UK policies were re-branded to Phoenix.
In September 2005, Resolution Life Group Limited merged with Britannic Group plc to form Resolution plc.
