Fund mergers
We have carried out various fund mergers over recent years to make better use of our resources (including capital), reduce running costs and improve the service we offer you. By reducing the number of our brands we believe this will make it easier for you to deal with us, and means we can manage your funds more efficiently.
All our fund mergers have been approved by the High Court. They were also reviewed by our regulator, the Financial Services Authority (FSA).
On 31 December 2005 we moved the life insurance businesses of following companies into Phoenix Life Limited (which had changed its name from Royal & SunAlliance Linked Insurances Limited on 29 December 2005):
- Swiss Life (UK) plc;
- Phoenix Assurance Limited; and
- Bradford Insurance Company Limited;
On 31 December 2006 we moved the life assurance businesses of six more companies into Phoenix Life Limited:
- Alba Life Limited;
- Britannic Assurance plc;
- Britannic Retirement Solutions Limited;
- Britannic Unit Linked Assurance Limited;
- Century Life plc; and
- Phoenix Life & Pensions Limited.
Following approval from the High Court on 30 January 2009, we moved the pension and investment business within Scottish Mutual Assurance Limited and Scottish Provident Limited into Phoenix Life Limited on 6 February 2009. The protection products were previously transferred to The Royal London Mutual Insurance Society Limited on 29 December 2008.

On 21 February 2011, we transferred all Phoenix & London Assurance Limited (PALAL) policies to Phoenix Life Limited. If you were formerly a policyholder with PALAL, and you are not aware that your policy is now with Phoenix Life Limited, follow this link for more information.
On 27 February 2012, if the UK High Court gives its approval, we are proposing to transfer all NPI Limited and certain National Provident Life Limited policies to Phoenix Life Limited. For more information about these proposals follow this link.
