This is a generalised summary about bonuses. For specific information about your type of policy, see your latest annual bonus statement and supporting information, including the guide to how we manage the with-profits fund that we have previously included with your statement. For any specific queries about how final bonuses are applied to your policy, please contact Customer Services. Telephone numbers for Customer Services can be found at the top of your bonus mail letter, or you can use the 'who services my policy tool' which can be found on our home page.
We have never guaranteed final bonuses. For some policies, we have shown final bonus on statements, but this is for information only. Final bonus rates generally take into account the investment returns on the underlying assets over the whole lifetime of maturing policies and other factors such as expenses and charges. Final bonus rates also allow for the guaranteed benefits already provided. The guaranteed benefits are the sum assured, cash option or annuity and annual bonus added to date, or with-profits units including any annual bonus added to date. The actual amount of final bonus payable (if any) will only be known when a claim arises. The amounts paid to our customers reflect a fair share of the assets invested on their behalf.
Final bonuses are only estimates until the policy matures and are never guaranteed. Therefore the amount of final bonus paid may be different from any amounts previously shown on statements, in any estimated maturity value letter or amounts based on current or previous final bonus rates
